The Collingwood Football Club has spent this week conducting an investigation into a claim that racial abuse was directed towards a Carlton player at the MCG last Sunday.

The club has spoken to some specifically nominated individuals and a further dozen members sitting in the immediate vicinity. The club also contacted the MCC for a security report and made an open invitation to anyone witness to the events to come forward.

While there is no footage of the incident it has been established that one or more individuals used language during the game that was abhorrent, which racially vilified the Carlton player and offended many members of the crowd.

Unfortunately, while the club has established that inappropriate behaviour occurred, it has been unable to get a consistent summary of the incident to clearly identify a culprit that the club could hold to account.

The club would like to take this opportunity to remind all Collingwood members and supporters that the club has a zero tolerance approach towards anyone who racially vilifies a player, official or patron.

Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert said: "We would encourage any stadium patron to send through the specific seat details of anyone they believe has been guilty of such offensive behaviour. It is the seat details that allows the stadium and the club to accurately prosecute any such incidents."
