Two Collingwood players have been selected in the initial 40-man All Australian squad, with Jeremy Howe and Adam Treloar earning their first nominations after outstanding seasons.

After joining Collingwood in 2016, Howe has been recognised for his breakout season in defence.

The 27-year-old played 21 games this season, averaging a career-best 22 disposals and nine marks.

Often known for his spectacular aerial abilities, Howe solidified his defensive prowess with the Magpies this season and showed his importance to the back six. Howe was added to Collingwood’s leadership group midway through the season.

Joining Howe in the 40-man squad is 24-year-old Treloar, who starred in the middle in his second season with the Pies

The former Giant averaged 30 disposals, six tackles and five clearances. He also kicked 13 goals from 21 games.

Both Howe and Treloar are two of 26 players around the league who have been nominated for a potential first-ever All-Australian selection, as announced by the AFL on Monday morning.

The final team of 22 will be named later this week on Wednesday, August 30.
