Who are these guys?
Wonder no more. Collingwood Media has compiled a dossier on the team’s three new faces, plus two others you may like to learn more about.
Jack Crisp
Number: 25
Age: 21
Height: 190cm
Weight: 91kg
Position: Half back/ wing
What’s his story?
A tall midfielder who wins the hard ball and has the ability to spread and use it well in space, Crisp’s versatility helped him make the transition from the rookie list to senior football, where he played the last six games of the 2014 season with the Lions. The 190cm left-footer has good hands and is noted for his ability around the stoppages, while his run, long kicking and strong tackling are other notable features of his game.
How is he feeling?
“I’m feeling very excited, especially being back up at the Gabba. It feels like I’ve been away for a while but it’s only been six months. I’m looking forward to going back up there and running on familiar territory.”
When did he learn the good news?
“Bucks came and spoke to me and told me I was playing, so training’s been pretty good. The coaches have told me I’ve been training well so that’s a good lead up for me.”
Jordan De Goey
Number: 35
Age: 19
Height: 187cm
Weight: 91cm
Position: Midfield
What’s his story?
A competitive and versatile midfielder who has a knack of sparking his team when it needs it. He did just that when he pushed forward to boot three goals in the Oakleigh Chargers’ Grand Final win last year. The Magpies believe he can play a forward in his own right and – like teammate Steele Sidebottom – rate his big-game potential. He is level-headed with ball in hand and has a real crack.
How is he feeling?
“I’m really excited to be told the news that I’ll be debuting this week. Obviously it’s a massive rush for me and a lot of excitement. I got told by Bucks not too long ago. It did seem like ages, though, but I’m just grateful to get the opportunity and I’m looking forward to representing the Collingwood Football Club.”
How does he describe himself?
“Just a hard midfielder who has a crack and tries his best. I think that’s the most important thing, if I go out there and play my role, there’ s no reason why we shouldn’t come out with a good result.”
Travis Varcoe
Number: 18
Age: 26
Height: 190cm
Weight: 82kg
Position: Half forward/ wing
What’s his story?
A fast and skilful midfielder who was a member of two Geelong premiership teams, Varcoe adds foot speed, precise disposal and goal nous to Nathan Buckley’s 2015 line up. Predominantly a forward-cum-wingman, Varcoe spent more time in defence this year, recording a career-high 29 rebound 50s. He is well known to Collingwood supporters, for he was the man who kicked the opening goal of the 2011 Grand Final just 15 seconds into the game. It was one of three goals he kicked for the day.
How is he feeling?
“It’s pretty great to be named in the side. Coming off a long pre-season and an extra three weeks doesn’t sound like much but in pre-season it sounds like three years. It’s been great and I’m looking forward to getting out there.”
How has he settled into his new club?
“I came in with a pretty open mind over the pre-season. The coaches didn’t give me too much direction, just get your fitness levels up and see how we go with that. I’ve been able to tick all the boxes which has been good from a personal level.”

Adam Oxley
Number: 43
Age: 22
Height: 193cm
Weight: 84kg
Position: Half back
What’s his story?
A rangy half back flanker with great skills and poise. Oxley belies his light frame with a strong overhead mark and proved his ability to read the play in defence during his first season on the rookie list in 2013. After a year battling an ankle injury where he only managed three VFL matches, Oxley will look to make an impact in 2015.
Jackson Ramsay
Number: 31
Age: 21
Height: 183cm
Weight: 90kg
Position: Back pocket
What’s his story?
A courageous and composed defender with pace and an excellent work rate. Ramsay broke into the senior side for the first time in the penultimate round of 2014. It followed several weeks of consistent football in the VFL, where he successfully blanketed some of the state league's best small forward. Ramsay's discipline and tenacity at the contest has made him an important part of the Collingwood VFL side in recent years. He has a professional approach to his training and will be a player to watch out for in the coming years.
