Two of Collingwood’s younger players Paul Seedsman and Simon Buckley told CTV about their excitement at getting another opportunity to return to the senior side against Port Adelaide on Saturday.

The Magpies swung the changes at the selection table on Thursday night with five players coming into the senior team following a spate of injuries in the past week.

Seedsman told CTV of the need to take the opportunity in his second stint at the top level.

“I’m obviously very stoked with it but it took a couple of injuries I think to get the opportunity, but one man’s loss is another’s opportunity so we’ll see how we go,” said Seedsman.

“It’s very challenging and obviously we need a few wins on the board, so take the opportunity, get around the boys and hopefully get a few wins.”

Both players impressed in the VFL win over the Northern Blues last Saturday and Buckley, like Seedsman, will be looking to translate that form into an accomplished performance against the Power.

“I’m obviously pretty pleased to get back up into the ones. I’ve played the last few weeks in the VFL and unfortunately for us there’s been a few injuries and it’s given me an opportunity so it should be good.”

Despite dominating the headlines in the early part of the week, the pair spoke of the closeness of the playing group and their determination to register their second win for the season this week.

“It’s been a pretty tough week obviously for the club and everyone’s really stayed upbeat and positive so we’re all looking forward to it,” said Buckley.

“We’re just going to concentrate on our structures and our game style and hopefully we come away with the four points.”

Seedsman backed his senior mentor Harry O’Brien to rebound to his best form, and praised the premiership backman’s mental toughness.

“He’s just so mentally strong and things like that don’t affect him. He’s just got the ability to put it all behind him and every time he hits the track he’s just bettering himself so you’ll see ‘H’ bounce back pretty quickly I reckon.”
