In a new feature to collingwoodfc.com.au, “Stat Attack” will feature an in-depth look into Collingwood statistics provided by Champion Data.

Collingwood’s impressive 93-point win over Richmond on Saturday afternoon at the MCG showcased the evenness of a side poised for running deep into September.

This week’s “Stat Attack” features the Magpies dominant inside 50 display, their success with scores from stoppages and the skillful Scott Pendlebury.

Inside 50s
Collingwood registered its highest total of inside 50s this season with 67.  Every Magpie registered at least one inside 50 on the day except for Simon Prestigiacomo.

From the 67 inside 50s, Collingwood managed a score 62.7% of the time, third highest for the round behind Essendon and Adelaide.  The Magpies faired slightly lower when converting their inside 50s to goals (32.8% of the time, sixth best for the round).

Scores from stoppages

A “score from stoppage” is credited when a team wins a clearance and then the ball is moved in an unbroken chain which results in a goal or behind (excludes rushed behinds).  The chain is broken when the opposition wins possession or a stoppage occurs.

Collingwood had a 15.8% strike rate with scores from stoppages (second highest for the round behind Essendon 18.2%).  The Magpies average a strike rate of 11.2% with scores from stoppages this season.

Scott Pendlebury
The 21-year-old was in terrific touch in Saturday’s mammoth win collecting 31 disposals and using the ball with 87% efficiency (fourth highest for the side).  He registered 74% of his possessions in the midfield, 13% up forward and 13% in defence.

Pendlebury’s importance in the side is evident with the coaching staff using him in 67% of the centre bounces.  Shane O’Bree was next best at 53% followed by Dane Swan (50%) and Ben Johnson (43%).
