CTV> Watch Eddie McGuire and Mick Malthouse address the media at Gosch's PaddockCollingwood President Eddie McGuire and coach Mick Malthouse addressed the media after the involvement of Heath Shaw in a drink driving incident on Sunday night.
“It’s a disappointment to the club, to the players and to the fans”, McGuire told reporters at Gosch’s Paddock earlier today.
“The Collingwood football club is not only embarrassed by the whole situation but we are absolutely furious. There is no excuse. We are sick and tired of this sort of behaviour from players.
“It’s time these players grew up and took responsibility for their actions. He will be fined the maximum amount.”
McGuire stated, “He will play this Saturday night because he has to stand up and take his responsibility as a senior player”.
Flanked alongside McGuire was coach Mick Malthouse.
“I feel bitterly disappointed. I feel for our Collingwood Football Club. I feel for the supporters. Malthouse affirmed.
“Heath chose not to be responsible on Sunday. We are going to make him responsible this week and for the rest of his year.”
McGuire stated that the other individual in the car was, “(It was) a friend of his. It was no one from the Collingwood Football Club”.
Speaking later in the afternoon, Heath Shaw and the Collingwood leadership group fronted the media.
“He’s under the pump now and he has got to respond. He has let us down as a leadership group. He’s let the players down”, captain Scott Burns said.
“I’m pretty embarrassed, (I feel) pretty empty. I have let a lot of people down, not only myself, (but) the club and all of the supporters”, Shaw said.
