There's even more reason to cheer for a Pies goal this weekend - our Major Community Partner Coles is donating $1000 for every Collingwood goal during our round 19 clash with Essendon to the club's Magpie Nest program.
Additionally, Collingwood will donate $1 from the sale of each public ticket for this weekend's game to the CFC Foundation in support of the program.
2022 marks a decade since the Magpie Nest program began operating through a partnership between the Collingwood Football Club Foundation and the Salvation Army Project 614 Team, with support from the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne.
The program provides a network of support services and safe, affordable accommodation for people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.
The Magpie Nest Cafe at Westwood Place in the city serves over 3000 free meals each week and is a safe haven and vital point of contact with links to support services for people experiencing homelessness.
The Magpie Nest Women’s Program provides accommodation and dedicated support services for women who are in crisis, many affected by the trauma of domestic violence.
Salvation Army Project 614 caseworkers do amazing work and provide wrap-around support including links to mental health, drug and alcohol addiction and legal services, along with accommodation and employment/training assistance.
Magpie Nest is unique in that it provides housing from the private rental market in a sustainable business model for social needs. The program currently leases 45 houses around Melbourne providing homes for 120 people.
Magpies Social Enterprises and the Magpies Next Generation Employment Program provide a pathway to employment and training for disadvantaged people.
The State Government has just renewed funding of our case workers for another 12 months and continues to provide access to 18 houses for the program.
Collingwood is very appreciative of the generous support of the Victorian Government in funding the Project 614 Team Case Workers and who also continue to provide access to 18 houses for the program.
