In 2019 the club’s members, fans and partners came together to raise $1 million for our Magpie Nest Program helping those who are homeless and in crisis.
This year we hope to raise $500,000 in support community programs that make a real difference in our community. This year we are really excited to be hosting the club’s first ever live Player Telethon event in a similar format to the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal.
Launching today, the Collingwood Cares campaign will highlight the community programs that the money raised will support, culminating in an ‘appeal-style’ telethon event from 10:00am on Tuesday 28 June.
All donations go to the Collingwood Football Club Foundation and are tax deductible – and all donations no matter how small will make a difference.
Collingwood Cares is an event for the whole club.
All our players staff and members get behind the annual event, with athletes like Darcy Moore, Ruby Schleicher and Geva Mentor bringing their on-field and on-court talents into the call-centre arena! Fans can call to speak to any of the players and make a donation. All Collingwood’s athletes will be involved in the telethon and will help process contributions.
Caring for people who are doing it tough is part of Collingwood’s DNA. The club has helped people side by side since 1892. In 2022, the goal is to raise $500,000 by sun-down on Tuesday 28 June. But this target isn’t time bound to the telethon day – donations have already started flowing through the Club’s new donation portal.
“Our new donation portal on the website is now up and running has already raised just over $12,000”
MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS OUR $500K GOAL: DONATE NOW
“It’s important we make the donation process as easy and available as possible, and the new website format has been phenomenal in doing this already. Now we’re excited to bring back the fun of a telethon event that our fans can feel truly connected into” said David Emerson, the club’s Director of Community and Stadia
Taking time to highlight the wide variety of programs operated by the Club ahead of the telethon event is an important step in connecting the dots between donation dollars and the eventual impact it evolves into.
“Storytelling is an engaging way to bring our fans and broader community along the journey. This fundraising event is about more than simply dollars and cents, it is also about highlighting how we are creating positive social impacts on people’s lives” said David.
The campaign will see different community programs highlighted across the Collingwood social media channels in the lead up to the telethon day, showcasing where donations go and the impact they can have. For example,
$10 can provide a meal for someone at the Magpie Nest Cafe
$25 can provide a care pack for women and children in crisis
$50 can provide a night of emergency accommodation.
Another fundraising initiative from the Club is proceeds from ticket sales of AFL games.

From Wednesday 1 June, $1 from every general-public reserved seat ticket purchased for the Round 15 game against the GWS Giants will be donated to the Collingwood Cares campaign on behalf of Collingwood fans. The proceeds are expected to generate thousands of additional dollars.
“All in all, we are very excited about the Collingwood Cares campaign, and how we’ve created opportunities for our fans and the community to get behind us and help us make a difference, side by side”.
