Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams polled four votes in the AFL Coaches Association (AFLCA) Champion Player of the Year for his four-goal effort in the loss to Geelong on Friday night.
The 20-year-old has now polled in three games this year and sits in fifth position (tied with Cloke) on the club leader board.
In his first year under Mick Malthouse, Luke Ball has caught the attention of the senior coach having polled in his last four matches including the round nine match (3 votes). Ball now moves within seven votes of club leader Dane Swan.
Malthouse and Geelong’s Mark Thompson were split over the number one player on the ground with James Kelly and Jimmy Bartel both polling a maximum of five votes.
In the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year, head coaches vote each week on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis. Coaches vote only on their own matches, but may vote for players on the opposing team.
Past winners of the prestigious award include Gary Ablett Jnr (2007-09), Simon Goodwin and Adam Goodes (joint winners in 2006), Barry Hall (2005) and Warren Tredrea (2004).
