Collingwood congratulates AFLW senior assistant and midfield coach Scott Gowans following his appointment as head coach of the Sydney Swans’ AFLW side for 2023.
Arriving at the Pies in late 2020, Gowans has supported Collingwood’s head coach Steve Symonds over the past two seasons.
Gowans will commence his new role effective immediately to begin preparations for the Swans’ inaugural campaign.
Collingwood’s Head of Women’s Football, Jess Burger, thanked Gowans for his time at the Pies.
“On behalf of the club, we would like to congratulate Scott on his new role,” Burger said.
“Scott’s wealth of knowledge and experience will hold him in good stead in pursuing this new opportunity. While he will be sorely missed, this is a fantastic opportunity that we know he has been working towards. We thank him for all he has brought to the Pies and wish him and his family all the best.”
Scott Selwood will step into the role of Pies’ AFLW midfield assistant coach. Selwood serves in the same position with the club’s AFL program.
“Scott brings great experience as both a player and coach. This is a great opportunity for him to step into the women’s football space and we look forward to welcoming him into our program”, Burger said.
