Last Time We Met
Collingwood 72 was defeated by Brisbane 73
Heart break after the siren for the Pies in round 3 against the Lions, with Brisbane youngster Zac Bailey slotting a goal after the siren.
The Pies performed valiantly, leading for a majority of the game. Pendlebury was at his classic best, with 30 disposals and four clearances. Brodie Grundy had a huge night against an inexperienced ruck opponent in Tom Fullarton. The star ruckman had a whopping 54 hit outs, 28 disposals, six tackles and five clearances.
Marquee Match-Ups
In the spotlight: Brayden Maynard v Charlie Cameron
A match-up that will get eyes on the broadcast, with the dangerous Charlie Cameron set to face Brayden Maynard on Saturday night.
In round 3 Cameron slotted two goals from eight disposals, both in a 10 minute span that helped Brisbane bring the margin back to just two points half way through the third quarter. Cameron spent a lot of the evening matched up on Isaac Quaynor, however with the young defender missing the rest of the season with glandular fever it will be Maynard that takes the challenge.
Brayden Maynard has had an outstanding season in 2021, averaging a career high in disposals, marks and rebounds. A man who loves a challenge, Maynard will thrive on Saturday night against one of the competition’s best small forwards.
Ball magnets: Jack Crisp v Jarryd Lyons
Champion data are going to have a busy evening when these two go head to head at the GABBA. Jack Crisp will play his 9th game against his old side, as he looks to continue his fine form in the black and white. On the other side of the centre circle, Jarryd Lyons will be looking to make life difficult for Crisp. The ex-Sun and ex-Crow has been outstanding in 2021, he is 5th in the league for total tackles and 12th for total disposals.
Collingwood struggled in the disposal column of the stats sheet last weekend against Hawthorn, an area of the game that will need to improve this week in order to cause issues for a strong Brisbane midfield.
Ruck royale: Brodie Grundy v Oscar McInerny
Brodie Grundy had his way in the ruck in round 3, up against Brisbane’s young ruckman Tom Fullarton. It won’t be as simple on Saturday night, with ruckman Oscar McInerny available for selection this time around.
McInerny has been in fine form this year, averaging a career high 12 disposals and 28 hit outs per game. The 205cm giant has added contested possession to his game in 2021, averaging 9.74 per game compared to just six last year. This will be a key part of his battle with Grundy, who ranks very highly in that area for ruckman.
The Inside Word
Daicos to return
Josh Daicos is back in business, a week after returning from his hand injury. Daicos had a run in a reserves scratch match last weekend but will line up against the Lions this weekend for the first time since round 16.
The young midfielder has had a consistent season, he had a particularly strong run of form between rounds 6 and 9 where he averaged 26.25 disposals. Pies fans should be excited to see a refreshed Daicos, ready to have a strong finish to the season.
Look Out For
Murphy in his natural position
Nathan Murphy returns to the side after missing out against the Hawks last weekend. It will be a great opportunity for Murphy to line up in his natural position across half-back. The youngster is incredibly versatile, an asset that as been utilised by the coaches all season. However, with the season coming to a close it could be a great opportunity for Murphy to gain some confidence in an offensive role across the half-back line.
Pies Priority
Revenge is on the cards, after the way the round 3 clash finished it would only be fair if the Pies came away with the four points this time around.
