The seventh annual Big Freeze event was officially launched at the MCG on Monday.

Raising much-needed funds and awareness for FightMND, the foundation led by Neal Daniher, Big Freeze beanies will again take over the MCG on Monday, June 14 when Collingwood faces off against Melbourne for the Queen’s Birthday clash.

This year’s key theme for the event is ‘Play On’ to stress that no matter what adversity or problems you may face, you need to charge on. The phrase was also used by Daniher to sign off on a text message informing friends and family of his MND diagnosis in 2013.

Magpies vice-captain, Taylor Adams attended Monday’s launch and said he felt honoured to again be a part of such a significant game that supports such an important cause.

“I actually read Neal’s autobiography last year after being in the hub and to put that experience into perspective, you can’t help but draw inspiration from him and his family,” Adams said at the Big Freeze launch.

“He’s done such an incredible job and the fact of the matter is he does it not for himself but for the benefit of other people and we’re really proud as a football club to be able to support him and do that.”

FightMND has committed more than $48 million to research initiatives to help find a cure for motor neurone disease since the charity began back in 2014.

“The beanies have become a fashion icon this time of year and the march down Daniher way is something really special,” Adams said.

“The Queen’s Birthday game is one of those ones you pencil in as a player, you really look forward to playing in those big games.”
