Collingwood co-captain Brianna Davey tonight capped off a stellar 2021 campaign by winning Collingwood’s AFLW best and fairest award.

The 26-year-old finished the count on 158 votes, polling in every match of the eleven the team played across the home and away season and finals series.

Davey averaged the most disposals (23.8) for any player in the league and top 10 for metres gained, contested possessions, clearances, marks, tackles, score involvements and inside 50s.

Davey was also awarded the Player’s Player award, which honours not only distinguished performance but empathy and care for team-mates and a commitment to team.

Tonight’s awards add to Davey’s collection of 2021 accolades.

The 26-year-old shared in the AFLW’s highest individual honour when crowned the joint winner of the AFLW’s Best and Fairest medal and named All Australian captain at the W Awards on Tuesday night.

Voted by her peers, Davey was also the recipient of the AFLW Players’ Most Valuable Player Award last week.

Collingwood defender and fellow All Australian, Ruby Schleicher, finished second in the best and fairest count with 93 votes.

Rounding out the top five was midfielder Brittany Bonnici in third place with 91 votes, followed by Jaimee Lambert (77 votes) and Stacey Livingstone (48 votes).

Collingwood senior coach Steve Symonds commended Davey on a career high campaign.

“Bri is one of the league’s most consistent and talented performers,” Symonds said.

“Bri has had an outstanding season and has been a significant contributor to the program’s improvement both on and off the field.

“It is fantastic to see her recognised for her hard work, determination and playing brilliance in a career best season.

“Her ability to stand up in the big moments in games is a consistent characteristic. It is the reason she is so highly respected at the club and across the wider football community.”

Chloe Molloy booted 16 goals to claim the leading goal-kicker award. Across the home and away and finals series, Molloy kicked the most goals in the AFLW season.

AFLW rising star nominee Tarni Brown was awarded best first year player. Brown played in every game this season and averaged 11 disposals.
