Collingwood has secured the services of experienced assistant coach Justin Longmuir to oversee its backline and team defence.

The highly regarded West Coast senior assistant brings a wealth of knowledge to the Pies, having spent seven years with the Eagles, including five finals campaigns, and a further three years at Fremantle in recruiting and development roles.

Collingwood General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh said Longmuir’s diverse football background will prove invaluable in his role as assistant coach.

“Justin has been an integral part of two successful football programs, particularly with West Coast during a period of sustained finals football, so we look forward to him bringing that wealth of knowledge into our coaching team,” Walsh said.

Justin Longmuir spent seven years with the West Coast Eagles.

“He has a well-balanced resume, having overseen the forward line, ruck, tackling and development before taking on the senior assistant role. We think that diverse experience coupled with his strong playing and leadership background makes Justin a really valuable asset for our program.”

Longmuir, pick No. 2 in the 1998 National Draft, played 139 games for Fremantle and since retiring is completing the AFL’s level-four coaching course.

Longmuir was a member of the Matthew Pavlich-led Dockers outfit for nine years.

“I see this as a great opportunity to further my coaching career but more importantly to help Collingwood take the next step and achieve sustained success. Playing a role in that as part of the coaching group is what really excites me,” Longmuir said.

Longmuir joins former Western Bulldog and newly appointed development coach Matthew Boyd as additions to Collingwood’s 2018 football program.

Nathan Buckley will lead the club’s coaching panel as senior coach, supported by assistant coaches Robert Harvey, Longmuir and Brenton Sanderson.

Boyd joins Academy coaches Tarkyn Lockyer and Brad Gotch.
