We are saddened to learn of the passing of Lerrel Sharp.
Lerrel was a wonderful man, a champion player and a member of the famous 1953 Premiership team that defeated Geelong.
He played 87 games between 1953 and 1959.
Recruited from Scottsdale in Tasmania, Lerrel arrived at Collingwood in 1953 and performed so well that he played in a Premiership in his first season.
In 1954 he won the J.J. Joyce Trophy coming third in the Copeland Trophy.
He was a brilliant, skilful defender and also played in the losing Grand Finals of 1955 and 1956.
Lerrel represented Victoria three times in 1957 and was regarded as one of the best back-pocket players in the VFL.
He was injured in mid-1958 and subsequently missed a chance to play in the premiership team.
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Sharp family. Side By Side We Stick Together.
