Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan will contest a tripping charge at the AFL Tribunal next Tuesday.

Swan was charged by the AFL’s Match Review Panel with tripping Melbourne’s Sam Blease in the third quarter of the Queen’s Birthday clash at the MCG on Monday.

The 28-year-old stands to have 60 demerit points added to his record should he fail to have the charge dismissed, meaning that whatever the outcome he is clear to line up for Collingwood in its next match, against the West Coast Eagles in round 13.

The MRP assessed the incident as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). It equates to a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a level one offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand.

Swan has an existing five-year good record, which reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record.

As the Magpies have a bye this weekend, the tribunal hearing will be deferred until next Tuesday, 19 June.

In other MRP assessments from Monday’s match, Dayne Beams has accepted a $1950 sanction for making reckless contact with field umpire Jordan Bannister during the fourth quarter.

Melbourne’s Luke Tapscott will miss the Demons’ clash with Greater Western Sydney after accepting a one-match ban for striking Alex Fasolo during the third quarter
