“Leigh Brown's new nickname!” - The Big League?
Posted: Sunday 8 August, 9:19 PM (bigfooty.com.au)
“I was at the game last night with a few pies supporters and also a couple of cats fans.
The usual banter between us was pretty standard, and of course, Leigh Brown coped a pasting from the misinformed, uneducated Geelong conglomerate who accompanied me.
My Collingwood supporting friends and I proceeded to defend Brown, and came up with a reason why Collingwood had improved so much this year. The obvious conclusion we came with was Leigh Brown."
From now on, Leigh Brown shall be known as "THE DIFFERENCE!"”

Give a couple of years & with a brownlow & a couple of premiership cups & norm smith then we can talk…”??

“Don’t think we can rate mids from yesteryear with current ones anymore TBH, the mids of yester year weren’t given even half the breaks they are today.
I’ve seen both play live many times, and its bucks by a lonnnng way, that’s no disgrace though.
I’ll also put this argument out there, bucks IMO was better overhead as well, and by a fair bit.”??

“Swan is good damn good but imagine how good Buckley would have been if his career at the pies had of started in 04 instead of 94?
You can't compare the sides he played in from 94-2001 that only appeared in the one final series to the current team that will compete in their 5th consecutive finals campaign that Swan now enjoys.
Although he went on to win the Brownlow in 03 most of his best years were wasted in an inferior side without the depth of talent currently at our disposal.”
“My player management strategy when injuries hit” - woody?

“On the basis that we don't know when injuries will hit.
A key part to winning a flag is keeping the blokes out of the 22 not only hungry but capable. Depth is a huge advantage for us at the moment and we can't let up. Take for example the Caff, quiet game v Blues and a few calling for Medders to take his spot. He steps up and gets coaches' award votes.
The only blokes we should drop/rest are those that are genuinely carrying something. We must simply take the approach of getting them 100% for the last 2 weeks of the finals. My gut says Leon, Heath and now Reid are in this bracket.
Assuming the irreplaceable stars (Jolly, Presti, Swan, Didak, Ball) are not carrying anything then we simply have to back in their ability to play another 7 weeks of footy. In the next 3 however we need to manage their TOG and time in the engine room. (For Presti that might be time on guns).
Although we have depth in the twos you need AFL-match-hardened-depth. In my view it is too late for debuts or left field Bones'style dreaming now. These are the only four blokes you'd actually want coming into the side on GF day I reckon.
The benefits we get are:
Fraser - 2 games v Bombers, Crows (200th v an A grade ruck duo)
Medders - 2 games v Crows, Hawks (one against a recent premier and s/be Top 8 team) but needs a big "focussed" VFL game this week!
JMac - 2 games v Bombers, Crows (against quick mid-fields, whilst he seems to be in a rich vein of form it might do his confidence wonders to not come up against a Top 4 team for once)
Shaw, Reid & Leon all get 2 weeks off.
Shaw & Leon have history of returning fresh and firing.
We should only need make one change from round 22 to finals.
