While Collingwood secured the four points in Friday night’s contest against the Western Bulldogs, it was Bulldog Ryan Griffen who was considered best on ground by both senior coaches.

Nathan Buckley and Brendan McCartney allocated a maximum five votes each in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year competition for Griffen’s complete game (33 disposals, seven tackles, two goals).

The Magpies’ leading possession winners, Dayne Beams (33 disposals) and Bob Rose-Charlie Sutton Medal winner Scott Pendlebury (34 disposals), both received seven combined votes (four and three) for their work in the midfield.

Steele Sidebottom was also mentioned by both head coaches polling a combined two votes for his 29 disposal and five-tackle outing.

Bulldogs Brian Lake was awarded two votes each (four total) for his role on Travis Cloke, holding the forward goalless in the first half.

Pendlebury’s seven votes take him to 38 total votes for the season, one shy of the leader Sydney’s Josh Kennedy, who failed to poll in the loss to Adelaide.
