Collingwood midfielder Sharrod Wellingham believes the narrow three-point win against Adelaide proves that the Magpies are equipped and ready to tackle this year’s September campaign.?
Speaking to CTV in the MCG rooms after the team meeting, Wellingham admitted the side’s ability to mount a comeback in the final stanza of the match was a telling sign. ?
“It might be a good thing to have experienced coming into the finals,” Wellingham said.??
“Good teams win games like today. We are a good team.”??

The 22-year-old highlighted Adelaide’s Nathan van Berlo as a key playmaker for the Crows in the first three terms. The midfielder had amassed 17 possession before a tactical change saw van Berlo closely marked, limited to just two touches in the fourth quarter.??
“We took van Berlo out of the game, who was having a very good game.
“It was very narrow and I don’t like playing in games like that. I don’t want those types of games, especially going into finals. But very happy with the win.”??

After the match, senior coach Mick Malthouse delivered a stern warning to the playing group. The veteran coach stressed the need for the players to be mentally prepared for the game and to be ready for their opponent.
“ (Mick said) we can’t expect things to be turned on, on gameday. We have to make sure we are concentrated during the week and ready to go on game day.
"We understand that."
