Didak magic fires Pies

Star forward Alan Didak spoke to CTV after his match-winning performance in the stirring come-from-behind victory over Carlton at the MCG on Saturday.
In only his second game since returning to the side following off-season knee surgery, Didak booted four invaluable goals and proved a constant threat to the Blues’ defence in the Magpies’ 24-point triumph.
The 24-year-old 2006 Copeland Trophy winner was a shining light in a difficult first half, booting two goals as the team could only manage an inaccurate 4.11 and trail by 19-points, and then added two more as the momentum swung in a blistering third-term performance by the Magpies.
“We struggled early on to kick the goals but we were never out of the game, so we just had to regroup and keep playing the way we were but kicking the goals,” Didak said in the rooms.
“We did (kick goals) in the end and the result showed that we come away with the win.”
Didak, who booted three goals in the memorable ANZAC Day victory over Essendon in round five in his comeback game, missed last week’s win in Adelaide with a sore calf, but returned to the line-up in style against the Blues.
“I’ve been out of footy for seven months, but to come back and play OK against Essendon, and to kick four goals today, it’s not too bad for me.
“I’ve still got a long way to go, and hopefully I can continue producing what I did today for the rest of the year.
“I surprised myself against Essendon, I had the week off last week but I thought I was going to struggle again today. I did struggle for second and third efforts, but that will come within three or four weeks, and I just can’t wait.”
With the Magpies now sitting at five wins after seven rounds and in the top four on the ladder, Didak said that sceptical outsiders can continue to underrate the Magpies at their peril.
“We could be the underdogs every week as long as we play the way we want to play and we’ll keep winning. Next week’s another game against a very good side and if we keep playing the way we want to play we should win.”
