Scott impressed by win
Brad Scott gives his insight into last week's 45-point win over Sydney.
Collingwood's assistant coach, Brad Scott, said the 45-point win over Sydney Swans was very impressive considering the injuries sustained during the game.
Speaking on CTV’s weekly match review show The Final Siren, Scott praised the efforts of Toovey and Swan, and highlighted the late inclusion, Shannon Cox.
“We have a great record against Sydney. I was pleased we could continue that great record tonight. They boys were terrific and we stuck to our game plan really well and it all turned out for the best,” Scott said.
“I was very impressed. We had a couple of injuries during the game which can really hurt you at times. The boys really dug deep and there were some fantastic individual performances.
“Alan Toovey was playing under a lot of duress and for him to play out the game was really important for us.”
Cox was a late inclusion for Nathan Brown (general soreness) and was prolific around the ground racking up 20 possessions and one goal.
“He did a really good job for us, Coxy. We know he provides great rebound out of defence and he played well when he had his opponent and was also a good loose man in defence at times. His skill is undoubted and he just needs to continue that on now and get a bit of consistency into his game.”
Dane Swan was a standout throughout the match winning the ball 31 times against formidable opponents Martin Mattner and Paul Bevan.
“He is such a strong powerful mark. We like resting him forward at different stages. But the way our forward line works it’s not much of a rest up forward really so we have to get him off the ground. We would of liked to have him on the bench a little bit more tonight just to give him a little bit more of a rest.”
Scott forecasted the game against Fremantle next Friday night as an important one in the lead-up to the finals.
“It’s going to be another important game. Fremantle haven’t had the season they would have liked but they have got some pretty exciting young players and it’s a game we are going to have to get over. We want to build some momentum going into the finals.”
