Reigning Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan is free to play against West Coast on Saturday week with the AFL Match Review Panel offering him a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea for tripping Melbourne’s Sam Blease during the third quarter of the Queen’s Birthday clash.

Swan, 28, was charged with a Level One tripping offence and will not miss any football should he accept the penalty offered by the MRP.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Demons, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point).

He has an existing five-year good record, which reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record. In further good news for the Pies, contact between defender Nathan Brown was cleared of any wrongdoing following a clash of heads with Melbourne’s Colin Sylvia during the second quarter

The MRP saw it that Brown’s action “was an attempt to block Sylvia from making position in the forward line and the head contact was an accidental clash that could not be reasonably foreseen”. As a result, no further action will be taken.

The final incident assessed following Monday’s win saw Melbourne’s Luke Tapscott offered a one-match penalty for with a Level Three striking offence against Alex Fasolo in the third term.

Tapscott’s actions were assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). He has no existing record, meaning an early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction.
