Qualifying crowd: Winner and all-time record
Collingwoodfc.com.au has published the winner of the 'Guess the Crowd' competition and statistics on the record attendance
Over 3,000 guesses were submit in the collingwoodfc.com.au competition with over 80 per cent of entries predicting a crowd in excess of 70,000.
Kylie’s prize is a signed footy by her favourite player, or in this case, her brother’s number one Magpie.
“I thought with the interstate team and the prediction that the weather was going to be average, a smaller crowd would turn out.
“Heath Shaw is my favourite player and a footy signed to Brett for his birthday would be sensational.”
The crowd on Saturday broke the all-time record between these two sides.
The previous record of 57,546 was set in 1990 in the famous drawn qualifying final at Waverley.
Collingwood also confirmed its status as the biggest-drawing club in the AFL, with six of the single-season record seven matches exceeding 80,000 fans in 2011 involving the Magpies.
Last year the club drew more than 80,000 to its home-and-away matches five times, with over 90,000 attending each of the preliminary final, grand final and grand final replay.
The home-and-away matches that exceeded 80,000 in 2011 were Essendon v Collingwood (rd5, 89,626); Collingwood v Carlton (rd3, 88,181); Carlton v Collingwood (rd17, 85,936); Collingwood v Geelong Cats (rd24, 85,705); Collingwood v Hawthorn (rd15, 83,985); Richmond v Essendon (rd9; 83,563) and Geelong Cats v Collingwood (rd8, 81,691).
