Jolly says he's fit and ready
Darren Jolly says he will be right to face Adelaide this weekend, so Josh Fraser may continue to wait for his 200th AFL match
COLLINGWOOD’S Josh Fraser looks set to have to wait at least another week for his 200th AFL match after fellow ruckman Darren Jolly declared himself fit to play this weekend.
Jolly was seen icing his leg after coming off late in Friday night’s win over Essendon, prompting suggestions that he may be rested for Saturday night’s clash with Adelaide, but he said on Wednesday he would be fit to face the Crows.
“It’s going really good. I’ll be right to play this week. It was just a little minor knock on the shin so it was fine,” he said.
“It would be good to get Josh to come up and play his 200th, but that will be left up to Mick [Malthouse] and the selectors.”
While Malthouse has publically expressed a desire to see Fraser achieve his milestone, he has said he won’t be giving games based on sentiment. It’s a view that Jolly shared.
“I don’t think it (resting players) is going to happen. We’re not in the game for resting people. We’ve got two games to go and we really want to focus on finishing off strong to give us a chance for the finals,” he said.
“I’m happy to play any role thrown at me to help the team out. If it comes to that, it comes to that I suppose.”
Jolly has played every game for the Magpies this season - in fact he hasn’t missed an AFL match since round seven, 2005 - but he says his body is showing no signs of wear and tear.
“I feel great. The way they run training has really helped me out and everyone is ready to go and conditioning really well.”
Leon Davis, Ben Reid, Tyson Goldsack and Luke Ball all missed the win over the Bombers through injury but Jolly says they are all in contention to play this week.
“They all trained today so they are all up and ready to go. It will be an interesting time for the selectors to see how they go picking a team.”
“We’ve got a strong list which is great for us heading into finals. It makes players aware to play their role and make sure they’re on their toes because we’ve obviously got blokes playing in the twos who are playing some good footy as well.”
