COLLINGWOOD midfield star Scott Pendlebury says it is important to win the premiership this year for the whole team, not just outgoing coach Mick Malthouse.

The Magpies have been a powerhouse in the competition for the second straight year and remain favourite to win back-to-back flags.

Pendlebury told 3AW radio on Sunday the team's success outweighed an individual's overall accomplishments.

"We want to win it for everyone involved in the football club," he said

"It's bigger than one person - a premiership - and it's important for our team and fans that we get it once again," Pendlebury said.

The 23-year-old said he had no reason to doubt Malthouse would stay on in his new role as director of coaching, despite being highly sought after by other AFL clubs.

"Even Mick himself said he's not going to coach anywhere next year," Pendlebury said.

"As a playing group we know Mick's going to be there and we're just focused on achieving the ultimate this year - and there's still a lot of hard work to go."

Pendlebury signed a one-year deal to stay at Collingwood until the end of 2012, and said the decision was based on the confusing nature of the upcoming collective bargaining agreement.

"I wanted to back my own form - hopefully this year I've played some strong football," he said.

"With the collective bargaining agreement taking so long to get sorted we wanted to make sure that I was in the right position, that we knew exactly what deal was going to get done, and I'm very happy at Collingwood.

"I don't regret making that call of a one-year deal at all."
