The Collingwood Football Club is pleased to confirm that Dale Thomas has signed a new two-year contract, which keeps the star midfielder in black and white stripes until the end of 2013.

The 24-year-old premiership player announced that he signed on Friday in an exclusive interview for supporters on CTV.

Thomas, who was the second overall pick in the 2005 draft, has played 130 games and booted 99 goals for the Magpies since debuting in the opening round of the 2006 season.

He has arguably enjoyed his best season yet in 2011, having averaged career highs for disposals (25.1), kicks (16.3), clearances (3.4) and tackles (3.8) per game in 19 matches.

In the club’s premiership season last year Thomas played every game and finished third in the Copeland Trophy, his highest ever finish in the best-and-fairest, and was also voted best player in finals, an award he shared with Dane Swan and Nick Maxwell.

Thomas, from Drouin in south eastern Victoria, burst onto the AFL scene after playing his under 18 football with the Gippsland Power. In 2006 he was an AFL Rising Star nominee and won the Magpies’ best first year player award after playing 16 games.

Durability has been a feature of his career as he has played 114 of a possible 121 games since the start of 2007. Thomas has also appeared in all 13 of the club’s finals matches since his career began.

Thomas’ commitment comes after fellow midfield stars Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury agreed to new contracts earlier this season.
