Swan closing the gap on the best
Dane Swan's 34 possessions and two goals earned the midfielder 10 votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year
Swan’s 34 possession and two goal effort in Friday night’s one-point win over the Western Bulldogs commanded the respect of both coaches to receive a maximum 10 votes.
Swan has now polled 53 votes this season and is now eighth on the leader board, 16 votes behind Ablett.
In the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year, coaches vote each week on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis. Coaches vote only on their own matches, but may vote for players on the opposing team.
Past winners of the prestigious award include Gary Ablett (2007-08), Simon Goodwin and Adam Goodes (joint winners in 2006), Barry Hall (2005) and Warren Tredrea (2004).
Leon Davis and Harry O’Brien polled three votes apiece in Friday’s win while Alan Didak’s 33 disposal performance managed only two votes.
Didak’s scintillating form has been acknowledged by Mick Malthouse and the opposition coach having polled 39 votes in his last five matches.
Defender O’Brien has also impressed polling in four of his last five matches.
