Time to take stock: Lockyer
Tarkyn Lockyer says the Magpies will use the weekend off to assess where they're at.

Tarkyn Lockyer says the club will use the break to analyse what’s working and what’s not after the team fell to three wins and four losses.
Hawthorn proved too strong at the MCG on Saturday afternoon, and via a 10-goal final term blew the margin out to 65 points by the final siren.
But it was no fault of Lockyer’s, who continued to play an important forward role and followed his three goals on ANZAC Day with four majors against the Hawks.
He said there were some positives in that the Magpies fought hard for three quarters and at the final change were only 25 points down.
“I thought towards the second half of that third quarter we really had the momentum going into three quarter time, and sort of had a sense that we were going to get back into the game and have a real good shot at it, but unfortunately they were too good,” Lockyer told CTV.
“We probably didn’t get our hands on the ball enough through the centre.
"I think they were pretty dominant in there and kicked straighter, and in the end the scoreboard probably blew out a little bit, but very disappointing to finish off like that.”
Lockyer conceded that the Hawks’ game style got the better of the Magpies.
“The way they play their zone defence all across the ground shut us down coming out of half back and through the midfield, and then going forward they were probably a lot quicker, and obviously used the ball a lot better kicking it to Franklin, Roughead and Williams, so they were too good for us.”
Now, with the league taking a break for the Hall of Fame tribute match, Lockyer says the Magpies will take the chance to reassess in an attempt to get back to playing the kind of football that took the team to the 2007 preliminary final.
“We’ve got a week off so it’s a pretty good opportunity to reflect on how we’re going, obviously we’ve got a fair bit of work to do.
“It will be a good opportunity to sit back and analyse where we can get better, and also what we’re doing well.
“Then we’ve got another couple of good challenges in the next few weeks with St Kilda and Geelong, so it certainly doesn’t get any easier.”
