Magpies Dane Swan, Leigh Brown and Shae McNamara were at Royal Park in Carlton yesterday to help coach kids playing in the Multicultural Schools Cup.

The Cup is the showcase event of the year for Collingwood’s Multicultural Schools program, which aims to assist migrant and refugee communities to gain access to Australian football.

Swan said it was great to see so many different nationalities represented and that he had enjoyed helping out with the program.

“It’s really good to see so many kids out there enjoying themselves and to see the way footy has helped them settle in to the Australian culture”.

Swan and Brown were on hand to provide coaching to the grand final teams and to present the trophies to the winning boy and girl teams.

All the kids who participated in the program also took part in six weeks of clinics at their schools, received tickets to a Collingwood match and were also given the opportunity to play on the ground at half time of an AFL match.
Collingwood’s Multicultural Schools program is run with the help of players Dane Swan, Leigh Brown, Shae McNamara and Harry O’Brien.

The players help to run various activities and programs throughout the year with multicultural communities.
