COLLINGWOOD remains uncommitted to using its first pick in the NAB AFL Draft to snare former St Kilda midfielder Luke Ball.

Ball, 25, ended his 142-game career at the Saints on Tuesday after a failed attempt to move to the Magpies during last month's trade period.

Despite the Pies' interest in Ball then - and his much-publicised desire to join them - president Eddie McGuire said nothing was set in stone.

"Luke Ball has put himself into the draft and every team that has a pick gets a chance to pick him up," he said on Wednesday.

"We have pick 30 and if he's there at pick 30, he'll be judged compared to the available talent.

"(Recruiting manager) Derek Hine will make the right call at that time if he's available."

A number of other clubs, including Essendon and Melbourne, have also expressed interest in Ball, who will face a nervous wait before the Magpies' first selection.

Melbourne has the first two picks of the draft, plus numbers 11 and 18, while Essendon has 10, 24 and 26.

Port Adelaide, with picks eight, nine and 16, could emerge as another serious threat to Ball's wish to become a Pie.

The Brisbane Lions, the most active participants in trade week with five players acquired, have also put themselves in the mix and have No.27.
