Collingwood is scheduled to take on Hawthorn in Friday night's preliminary final at the MCG at 7.45 pm.

The Hawks secured a preliminary final berth with a 36-point win over Sydney in Friday night's semi final.

It will be the just the fourth final and first between these two clubs since 1978.

The Magpies enjoyed a 41-point win last time these two sides met in round 15 earlier this year with Dane Swan, Dale Thomas, Ben Reid and Scott Pendlebury all accumulating 30 disposals or more.

Collingwood is expected to welcome back Reid from a groin injury and  Thomas from a two-week suspension after both star players missed the qualifying final win over West Coast.
