DAWES, DAWES, DOORS GALORE

Or to put it another way………….

FROM BIG THINGS, EVEN BIGGER THINGS GROW.

WOW!!!!!!!!!
What a week!
I don’t smoke, but I feel like a cigarette after the past few days.
Actually, I feel like a shower!

Imagine how Chris Dawes and John McCarthy must feel.

Is there a Spudster on the planet or in the deep fryer of life who HASN’T dreamt of playing for the Pies?
What an honour.
What a thrill.

Sadly for some, the fickle finger of fate dictates that their debut comes against Freo or in the AFL’s version of an afternoon nap – a Sunday twighlight game.
Not John and Chris though.
They pull on the zebra skin and step out into the big time BIG TIME!

Let’s face it, even the Chinese will be watching the Pies v Saints on Satdee night.

And who could blame them?

THIS IS A MASSIVE GAME FOR THE COLLINGWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB.

And I don’t just mean for season 2008.
I mean massive as in a landmark game, a watershed game, a famous game.

Win this (and despite what many might think, it is very winnable) and this game will be remembered for generations.

There have been that many ins and outs we actually needed to put some Dawes in the side!

It’s a game within a game.
There still is the small matter of finals football on the menu remember.

I don’t think I’ve been this excited before a game all year!
Serious!
Who knows what will happen?
Who knows who will rise to the challenge?
Great careers could be just starting.
There really is nothing to lose now and SO MUCH to gain.

Benny Franklin once said:

All human situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the present but neither see nor feel those of the future; and hence we often make troublesome changes without amendment, and frequently for the worse.

I have a feeling, however, that no matter what the scoreboard says this weekend the Mighty Fighting Pies will come out of it a much stronger, more galvanised football club.

And supporters will forever talk about ‘this’ game.
(Of course they will refer to it as ‘that’ game but it hasn’t happened yet so using ‘that’ didn’t make the sentence look right – anyway you get the point)

Franklin also believed:

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

Go hard Pies!!
