Collingwood has traded 20 year-old defender Tom Young to the Western Bulldogs for a fourth round pick, selection 71 (which was used to acquire Jordan Russell from Carlton), in next month’s national draft.

The 20 year-old one-time NSW scholarship rookie played nine matches for the Magpies over three seasons at the Westpac Centre, including seven in 2012.

Young won Collingwood’s VFL best and fairest award as an 18 year-old in 2010 and finished third in the award the following season, during which he made his senior debut.

Collingwood director of football, Geoff Walsh, wished Young well.

“Tom was whole hearted and we enjoyed having him at Collingwood,” Walsh said.

“We all hope that this new start, this new opportunity, works out well for him.”
