Collingwood’s National Recruiting Manager Derek Hine says the club’s activity during the trade period has catered for both its current and future needs.

Hine’s team brought in three new players – Taylor Adams (Greater Western Sydney), Patrick Karnezis (Brisbane) and Jesse White (Sydney) – to compensate for the loss of free agent Dale Thomas (Carlton) and traded pair Heath Shaw (Greater Western Sydney) and Jackson Paine (Brisbane).

“I feel that we’ve had a really strong focus, not only on the now but also to the future,” Hine told CTV.

“We’ve brought in players of the ilk of Taylor Adams, who in essence is only a 20-year-old player, who is going to have a real part in our midfield succession. That was really pleasing.

“From the talls point of view, Jesse White is a player who is going to allow us a greater flexibility with those 194-195cm and above players that can swing either end of the ground.”

On Karnezis, who became a Magpie with only hours remaining in the three week exchange period, Hine believes he will be able to make a difference to the Collingwood outfit after three years with the Lions.

“Patty Karnezis is a player who is 191cm (and) three years into the system.

“He’s a utility type who has played forward, midfield and back.

“We would really like to bring him in and develop him through the midfield, that’s the goal.

“There was an element of homesickness with Pat and with us being able to bring Patty in, we think that he’s going to be nice and stable in terms of his family and hopefully we’re going to be able to develop him into that 191cm utility that can really provide us with a little bit of height through there.”
