Sunday's classic against Carlton marked the arrival of Jamie Elliott.

The 20-year-old clearly wasn't daunted by the 84,247 strong crowd as he bagged a career-high five goals in Collingwood's 17-point win.

Elliott's coming of age was recognised by both Nathan Buckley and Mick Malthouse who together awarded him the maximum 10 votes in the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year Award.

It is the first tike Elliott has polled votes from the coaches since debuting in round nine last year.

He has now played 17 matches which unfortunately makes him ineligible to receive a NAB Rising Star nomination. The AFL's Rising Star rules stipulate that the winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 and must not have played more than 10 games to the start of the season. Having played 15 games last year, Elliott is ineligible.

It won't worry him in the slightest after he announced himself as a serious weapon in the Collingwood forward line on Sunday.

The Euroa product gathered 20 possessions (the second highest total of his career) and laid three tackles, underlining his trademark forward pressure.

He also held an equal career-high 10 marks despite standing at 175cm and weighing in at only 79kg.

Due to his ability to 'play tall', Elliott has drawn comparisons with another explosive small forward Paul Medhurst, who Magpie fans remember fondly for his exploits between 2007 and 2010.

Five other Magpies were also recognised for their efforts against the Blues by the two coaches.

Heath Shaw's dynamic form at either end of the ground earned him four votes while second-gamer Sam Dwyer drew three votes for his composure in heavy traffic.

He ended the day with 23 possessions and kicked a vital goal midway through the second quarter which stamped him as a new favourite of the Magpie Army.

Jarryd Blair polled two votes for a gutsy display while Quinten Lynch and Steele Sidebottom received one vote apiece.

After two rounds, Elliott and Scott Pendlebury are the highest ranked Magpies with 10 votes.

Sydney's Kieren Jack leads the competition with 18 votes. Essendon skipper Jobe Watson sits one vote behind him on 17, while Trent Cotchin (Richmond), Tom Liberatore (Western Bulldogs) and Joel Selwood (Geelong) share third place.
