Scott Pendlebury's stellar first year as captain was recognised by the Channel Nine's football commentators who voted him the Lou Richards Medallist for season 2014.

Pendlebury polled 102 votes to finish in first place ahead of West Coast's Matthew Priddis (93), Fremantle's Nat Fyfe (91), Port Adelaide's Robbie Gray (89) and Geelong's Joel Selwood (77).

After each home and away game during the season, the Sunday Footy Show panel reviews the match and awards votes out of 10 to the top four players.

The Medal is named in honour of the great Lou Richards who, like Pendlebury, captained the club during his playing days.

Richards, who played 250 senior games and led the 1953 premiership triumph, went on to forge a famous career in the media.

Pendlebury appeared on The Footy Show to receive his award from panellists Sam Newman, Garry Lyon and James Brayshaw.

He is the second Magpie to have won the award, following in the footsteps of Dane Swan, who received the Medal in 2010.
