COLLINGWOOD'S superb 2011 has been rewarded with six players named in the All Australian team.

Leon Davis, Ben Reid, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas, Travis Cloke and Dane Swan were all named in the team judged by a panel of AFL experts.

It was the first time Reid, Cloke and Thomas have earned a spot. It is Swan's third consecutive selection and Pendlebury's second, while Davis earned a spot in 2009 in the forward pocket before rejuvenating his career and becoming a rebounding defender.

Davis was famously dropped for last year's Grand Final replay against the Saints after a quiet performance in the drawn Grand Final.

However, Davis has now established himself as an indispensable part of Collingwood's half-back line.

It's the first time since 1990 that the club featured six players in the All Australian side (full history).  Last year the team was made up of four Magpies including Harry O’Brien, Alan Didak, Swan and Pendlebury.

The 2011 All Australian team.

Collingwood's 2011 All Australians
Travis Cloke:
The power forward earned his first selection in his seventh season of senior football.  The 24-year-old played in every match in 2011 and kicked a career best 62 goals, the second most in the home and away season.

All Australian stat: Cloke’s contested dominance in the air was a talking point all season taking an AFL-record 85 contested marks.

Leon Davis: One of the biggest success stories in 2011 has been Davis’ form as a defender.  Selected as an All Australian in 2009 as a small forward, the 30-year-old played in 19 matches this year averaging 22 disposals and 4.2 marks.

All Australian stat:
Davis has only conceded multiple goals against direct opponents in five matches this year.

Scott Pendlebury:  The vice captain secured his second consecutive appearance in the All Australian team.  Pendlebury played in every game this year and averaged career high numbers in disposals (29.4), tackles (6.1) and goals (1.0).

All Australian stat: Pendlebury is the most efficient user (78.7 per cent) of the footy out of the top 10 accumulators.

Ben Reid: A standout year as a key backman who has never been previously selected as an All Australian.  Averaged 15.8 disposals and 7.1 marks across 22 games.

All Australian stat:
Led the competition in marks from opposition kicks with 62 (Port Adelaide’s Troy Chaplin second with 52).

Dane Swan:  The star midfield earned his third consecutive All Australian selection.  Arguably the best player in the competition in the second half of the year averaging 34.2 disposals, 6.5 marks and using it with 71.5 per cent efficiency in his last 11 matches.

All Australian stat:  Averaged 31.7 disposals per game, second most in the competition behind the Western Bulldogs' Matthew Boyd (31.9).

Dale Thomas: Capped off a fine season with his first All Australian selection.  Played just 19 games and averaged career high numbers in disposals (25.1), inside 50s (4.1) and clearances (3.4).

All Australian stat: Ranks within the top five at the club in the following categories: disposals, contested possessions, marks, clearances and inside 50s.

How the team was selected
The All Australian selectors were not asked to nominate the leading players in each section of the field - forwards, defenders, midfielders and ruckmen - but simply to name the best players of the season. However, the final team of 22 was selected to best-fit team balance as if to play a match.

The All Australian selection panel is: Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Adrian Anderson, Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Leigh Matthews and Mark Ricciuto.
