Collingwood's cross code athlete Ash Brazill will miss the remainder of the 2020 AFLW campaign after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee in the third quarter of match against Melbourne on Friday night.
Scans over the weekend revealed the 30-year-old also sustained damage to her medial collateral ligament and a tear of her lateral meniscus.
Brazill's 2020 Super Netball campaign and international duties as an Australian Diamond will also be put on hold as she recovers.
Brazill played an integral role in Collingwood’s AFLW campaign as a key defender and one of the side’s most consistent performers. The vice-captain’s team-first mentality has made her a go-to resource for many of the athletes under the Collingwood roof.

An assessment over the weekend also confirmed teammate, Ruby Schleicher, suffered a fracture of her left wrist in the opening term of the match.
Schleicher will remain in a cast for the next six weeks, ruling out the remainder of the 2020 season.
The game against Melbourne is the 21-year-old’s second match since suffering a knee injury during pre-season training.
“The whole club is devastated for ‘Braz’ who will sit aside for not one but two campaigns this year,” Collingwood’s GM of Women’s Sport, Jane Woodlands-Thompson, said.
“With Braz being in the prime of her career, with Australian honours across both of her codes, the news is extremely disappointing.
“Our support is also behind Ruby who had shown such resilience in making a return from a earlier injury.”
In other unfortunate news, Collingwood defender Georgia Gourlay has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee.
The 20-year-old sustained the injury at training last Wednesday, with subsequent scans confirming the need for an ACL reconstruction.
This is the third time the luckless Gourlay has been struck down by a knee injury, having required reconstructions on the same knee in 2015 and 2016.
“Another heartbreak for the club. It’s hard to comprehend this is the third occurrence for Georgia. This is a case of extreme bad luck,” Woodlands-Thompson said.
Gourlay was drafted to Collingwood in 2018 and has played five games for the side.
