Rookie Macaffer elevated
Brent Macaffer has been elevated onto the Collingwood senior list.
20-year-old Macaffer, who has been on the Magpies' rookie list for two seasons, has been in excellent form at VFL level, having booted 37 goals in 2008, including 32 majors since round 10.
"Brent has been in good, consistent form, particularly during the second half of the VFL season, and has kicked plenty of goals", Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au.
"By putting Sean Rusling on the long-term injury list, it created an opportunity for Brent to be considered for senior selection for the last two rounds of the AFL season."
Macaffer is a mobile 187-centimetre forward with excellent hands, speed and strength, and led the Victorian TAC Cup Under 18 competition goal kicking while playing for the Gippsland Power in 2006.
He was the Magpies' second selection in the 2006 rookie draft at No. 26 overall, and is the third rookie from that draft to have been elevated to the senior list, joining Martin Clarke and Sharrod Wellingham, who have both played senior football.
Collingwood placed Rusling, who had a shoulder reconstruction earlier this year, on the long-term injury list this month prior to the AFL's long-term injury list placement deadline.
The Magpies will need to again elevate Macaffer onto the senior list at the end of the season if he is to have a permanent place on the list for 2009.
