Adam Treloar was a highly-touted junior footballer when he arrived at the GWS Giants as a pre-draft selection in 2010.
The talented midfielder had impressed for Vic Country and the Dandenong Stingrays as a junior, and spent time under the eye of current coach Nathan Buckley in the AIS Academy.
So it was hardly a shock when he burst onto the scene in 2012 and went on to finish fourth in the Rising Star in his debut year.
This week, relatively unknown soccer player Fran Karacic won a spot in the Socceroos 32-man World Cup squad – proving not all athletes follow the same pathways to the top of their game.
It led to an entertaining discussion on Collingwood Media vodcast ‘Sports Galore’ on names from nowhere – athletes who have risen from obscurity to find stardom in their chosen sport.
