Brighten your Monday morning and join Magpie favourites Nick Maxwell and Michael Christian as they recap the week that was ahead of Friday night’s blockbuster clash with Hawthorn.
Despite the heartbreaking loss to Fremantle in Perth, there were several positives to take out of the trip out west.
Jarrod Witts impressed, named Maxy’s Player Of The Week with 22 hitouts and 7 tackles. His defensive pressure contributed to a team-wide 94 tackles, the highest total recorded against Fremantle all season.
Applying fierce pressure to their opponents, Maxwell commended the team for showing great composure in their defensive fifty, the ability to handle pressure a key aspect to the teams success.
“Pressure is the key, that’s the blueprint for the Pies this year.”
Fremantle’s Stephen Hill caused trouble up forward; the floating seventh man played a key role in limiting Collingwood’s entries into the forward 50.
Nathan Buckley acknowledged Hill’s presence as a key factor in the final quarter of the game.
“We had a decision to make about halfway through the (final) quarter whether to compromise our stoppage structure to fix that up and we were a little slow getting that done.”
Maxwell: Our blueprint for this year
