The fitness of Ben Reid will be assessed during the week after the defender sat out the final quarter of Collingwood’s VFL clash with Box Hill on Saturday.
Director of Football Neil Balme believes Reid will be available for selection this weekend after the club determines the extent of a calf knock sustained on Saturday.
“He got a bit of a whack on the calf so didn’t play the last quarter,” Balme told Collingwood Media’s Blackmores Injury Update.
“We’re quite happy with the way he is but we’ll just see how it goes during the week. We’re expecting him to play this week.”

Prior to coming off the ground, Reid played arguably his best game of the year for the VFL Magpies as he collected 24 disposals and 13 marks at full back.
He exited the ground in the dying stages of the third term but appeared relaxed and pain-free as he watched a dramatic final quarter from the bench.
The 2011 All-Australian full-back has played five VFL games this year as he seeks to reclaim his place in a Collingwood side in which he’s played 99 career games.
His disposal average of 16.4 in the VFL this year is a career-high across both AFL and VFL level.
In other injury news, Balme reported that Tyson Goldsack is battling a knee injury which has kept him from full fitness in recent weeks.
Despite this, he says that the defender appears set to take on Hawthorn on Friday night.
“Goldsack has had a bit of an ongoing knee issue,” Balme said.
“We’ll be monitoring that this week but we do expect him to be fit to play.”
Goldsack has played all 12 of Collingwood’s games in 2015 and was once again influential against Fremantle on Thursday night.
While his disposal count dropped below ten for just the third time this year, he had four tackles and a season-high ten one-percenters.
Meanwhile, Jackson Ramsay will see a surgeon this week as he attempts to overcome complications of a shin injury.
Balme stated that Ramsay's recovery had been "slower than expected" and future clarity will be gained on the injury during the week.
"He’s still having problems with the stress reaction to his shin. I know he’s seeing a surgeon this week and we’ll certainly get a bit more information on it," Balme said.
"He’s not in terrible condition but hopefully he’ll be playing soon. He’s medium term, even long term I think."
While Ramsay won't be available for selection, the match committee will decide Reid and Goldsack's fate on Thursday when they pick a team for Friday night’s blockbuster against the Hawks at the MCG.
