Voting for the Magpie Army Player of the Year Award is underway for 2015.
Collingwood Media looks at the performances of some of the players who were among the best in Friday night’s loss to Geelong at the MCG.
Collingwood’s top performers
10. Scott Pendlebury
Statistics: 15 kicks, 9 handballs, 24 disposals, 4 clearances, 8 tackles.
Pendlebury was Collingwood’s highest disposal getter as he collected 24 touches in 87 per cent of game time. While it’s rare that Pendlebury is outsized in the midfield, he often found himself opposed to Geelong’s 198cm ruckman/midfielder Mark Blicavs. The skipper was still able to assert his influence on the match, he had four clearances and laid a team-high eight tackles.
43. Adam Oxley
Statistics: 11 kicks, 11 handballs, 22 disposals, 7 inside 50s, 4 tackles.
Oxley is beginning to create a reputation amongst the Collingwood forwards as the man delivering the ball inside 50. He did so more than anyone else on the ground and troubled Geelong with his ability to deliver the ball to the Magpies forwards. It’s the second week in a row Oxley has achieving this feat. He had a career-high nine inside 50s against Carlton.
8. Tom Langdon
Statistics: 14 kicks, 9 handballs, 23 disposals, 4 tackles, 4 marks.
After signing a new contact during the week, Langdon was back in defence on Friday night and looked comfortable against the Cats. In a role that is now his own, the 20-year-old had 23 disposals, four marks and five tackles. It mirrors his performance against Carlton and maintains a season average of over 20 touches a game.
25. Jack Crisp
Statistics: 12 kicks, 6 handballs, 18 disposals, 4 tackles, 4 clearances, 1 goal.
Crisp’s 18 disposal game against the Cats continued his solid run of form in 2015. While his numbers weren’t as high as we’ve seen, his effectiveness maintained an elite standard. He had four tackles, four clearances and was one of Collingwood’s five goal kickers. In addition to his personal game, Crisp spent time restricting Geelong skipper to 26 disposals and a limited influence.
