Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley admits the “heat’s on” from the top at the club, but insists the season is far from over.

As the Magpies face a crunch game against Melbourne on Sunday, Buckley said he was confident the team could turn its form around.

…Buckley was not concerned that his players were losing faith in him or in their own ability, and had high hopes for the season.

The Magpies will be boosted by the return of Steele Sidebottom (suspension) and Travis Varcoe (hamstring), two players Buckley said they could not replace.

Collingwood are prepared to play dour, defensive football to grind out better performances over the next couple of weeks, coach Nathan Buckley says.

…Buckley said he wanted the ball in Collingwood’s front half more often, to move the ball better, get it deeper and to get the defensive mechanics in the team’s front half functioning better.
 
Swan not afraid of being axed

Injured Collingwood star Dane Swan remains keen to return to the field this season.

But Swan told Channel 9’s The Footy Show last night that if the club no longer wanted him he was happy to leave.

“I don’t have any fear about not playing footy,” he said. “I think I’m ready for the next phase of my life.”
