In a new feature to collingwoodfc.com.au, “Stat Attack” will feature an in-depth look into Collingwood statistics provided by Champion Data.

Collingwood made it nine wins from its last 10 matches in the round 18 clash against Brisbane at the MCG on Saturday night.

A strong second half by the Magpies proved too much for the Lions as the home side ran out 40-point victors.

This week’s ‘Stat Attack’ features disposal efficiency and Dane Swan's impact on the scoreboard.

Cream rises to the top
Heading into the third quarter the Magpies were faced with an 11-point deficit after conceding the last three goals before the main break.

The Magpies improved their ball usage by hand and foot in the critical term and kicked five unanswered goals to propel the side to a 20-point lead heading into the final change.

Collingwood’s efficiency in the third term lifted as a whole to 80% for the quarter with eight players using the ball at 100% efficiency.

Swan was extremely effective all night but came to the fore in the third term using the ball at 100% efficiency from seven disposals.   Alan Didak had a poor first half using the ball at 50% efficiency before a breakout third term saw him gather seven touches and more importantly use it at 86% efficiency.

Scoring involvements

Definition: A scoring involvement occurs when a player is involved in an unbroken passage of play which leads to a score.

Collingwood registered 156 scoring involvements on the night compared to Brisbane’s 91.  The Magpie had 34 more than their season average of 122.

Swan led the way with 14 (37% of the time involved in a score), Leon Davis and Paul Medhurst had 12 and Didak and Scott Pendlebury finished with 11.

It is impressive to look at Swan’s numbers stacked up against the best in the league.  Coleman leader Jonathan Brown is involved in a Brisbane score 36% of the time to lead the league.  Lance Franklin is next best with 33% and Swan rounds out the top three with 32%.

Gary Ablett is involved in a Geelong score 26% of the time (third highest in his side).
