Collingwood defender Marty Clarke will miss the remainder of the season after damaging ligaments in his right ankle.

Clarke, who has played nine games this season, injured his ankle during the Magpies’ 35-point loss to Williamstown a fortnight ago.

Director of Football Rodney Eade confirmed that the 25-year-old will miss the remainder of the season.

“Marty underwent surgery last week and the damage to ligaments in his ankle was unfortunately worse than first thought,” Eade said.

“As a result, he will miss the rest of this year. It does mean, though, that he will be fully recovered and ready once pre-season starts.”

Eade also confirmed that Alex Fasolo will not play again this year.

The third-year forward has not played since undergoing surgery on his foot in early May.

He has been out indefinitely ever since but will now officially be shifting his focus towards 2014.

There’s much better news for Dale Thomas who is a chance to line up for Collingwood’s VFL team against Sandringham this Saturday.

Thomas had surgery on his ankle in May after it was accidently kicked against Hawthorn in round three.

The wingman must pass a fitness test later this week before he is selected.

Clinton Young (hamstring) is thought to be one-to-two weeks away from resuming while Caolan Mooney will be tested after he was concussed in a clash with North Ballarat’s Bryce Curnow.
