Collingwood's football department has accepted the two game suspension given to Brodie Grundy by the Match Review Panel.

Grundy will miss the Magpies' upcoming trip to face Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval, as well as a round 22 clash with Geelong as a result of the suspension. 

It is the first time in Grundy's 81-game career he will miss a game due to suspension. 

The decision comes after the ruckman's highly-discussed tackle on Ben Brown during the second quarter of Collingwood's clash with North Melbourne on Saturday night.

Brodie Grundy has been offered a two-match suspension for his tackle on North Melbourne’s Ben Brown in the second quarter on Saturday night.

The Match Review Panel on Monday classed Grundy’s tackle as “rough” and “careless” conduct.

Brown was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons on Saturday night after being taken from the field on the stretcher.

Video evidence of the tackle, and a medical report from North Melbourne led to the MRP finding the tackle resulted in “strong impact to the head” of Brown.

The incident was classified as a three-match sanction, however Grundy’s good record can allow him to miss two games.

The 23-year-old was clearly apologetic when responding to the incident after Saturday night's game. 

Speaking to Channel 7, Grundy admitted he was "shaken up" when Brown was helped from the field.

"There was no malicious intent, that's not the player that I am," he said.

"I was pretty glad they stopped play because I didn't know what to do."

"It's terrible that he's gone to hospital so I'll definitely reach out to him tonight."

Grundy did reach out, with Brown on Monday providing an update on his wellbeing.

"He sent me a text and that was really nice to see from him, and I think he was really remorseful afterwards," the North Melbourne spearhead told the media.

"They ran the CT scans just to make sure my head and my neck were all good and they were fine, so it was all positive news."

The club's football department has until 11am on Tuesday morning to determine whether it will accept the penalty offered, or take the matter to the AFL Tribunal.
