Father-son candidate Tyler Brown has been named as one of 24 medium midfielders invited to the 2017 National Draft Combine.

The AFL on Wednesday included the Eastern Rangers midfielder in a fifth group of players selected to test their skills at the October showcase.

Tyler is the son of Collingwood premiership player Gavin Brown, and younger brother of 2017 debutant Callum. At 186cm, the 17-year-old stands eight centimetres taller than his older brother.

The AFL describes Brown as a “developing medium midfielder with elite agility and poise with the football in hand”.

He played 10 games in the TAC Cup in 2017, while also helping his school Marcellin College to a third-straight Associated Grammar Schools premiership.

With a birthday on December 9, Brown will one of the youngest players eligible for the draft. Current Magpie Josh Daicos found himself in a similar position last year when he joined Collingwood on draft night as a 17-year-old.

“(Brown) is viewed by recruiters as likely to be picked up in the draft, though Collingwood views him as either a late pick or a rookie list candidate,” Fox Footy’s Jake Niall reported in May.

The National Draft Combine will be held at Etihad Stadium in October. Collingwood currently has picks 6, 36, 54, 59 and 78 in the 2017 draft.
