Adam Treloar’s first AFL final couldn’t come in more extraordinary circumstances.

Against all odds, the 25-year-old will return from a freak double hamstring injury sustained in round 14 against Carlton.

The midfielder has been outwardly confident of a potential return since day one, but on Thursday finally revealed the doubts he had in making it back in time for the Magpies’ first final.

“When I do run out there and play, it probably will be the proudest moment that I’ve ever had,” Treloar told co-host Mark Allen on Collingwood Media podcast ‘Sports Galore’.

“I thought the season was done. I think everyone did.

“Even five or six weeks ago, everyone in the medical department and all the coaches probably all conceded to the fact that I wasn’t going to play.

“It became a realistic chance probably about three weeks ago when I really turned a corner. The last three weeks I’ve just gone up and up and had no issue.”

Treloar is one of three huge inclusions in Collingwood’s Qualifying Final side. Jeremy Howe also returns, while Tyson Goldsack will make a remarkable comeback from an ACL injury sustained just over five months ago.

Treloar has spent time with both during his rehab program at the club. However it’s the work he’s done behind the scenes which he feels has led to the imminent return.

“If I’ve ever been diligent with anything, this has probably been the thing I’ve been most diligent with in my life,” he said.

“Everything I’ve been doing has been to get back to play.

“Last Friday’s session was a real test. And I haven’t been able to say anything publically, but I had an inkling that if I got through last Friday’s session that I was a massive chance to play.

“I was doing stuff to really test my hammy’s. I was running at full pace and getting pushed over where my hammy was most vulnerable.”

While Treloar is under no illusions of the difficulty of his first outing, he’s determined to convince the Collingwood community that no shortcuts have been taken on the road to recovery.

“It’s just most important that everyone knows that I am 100% ready to go.

There’s no 95%, there’s no 90%, there’s no iffy call, it’s 100% ready to go.

Everything has been ticked off, I’ve tested the best I’ve ever tested and I’m ready to run amok.”
