Nathan Buckley says Scott Pendlebury remains “bullish” about the ankle injury which forced him from the field in Collingwood’s seven-point win over the Brisbane Lions on Sunday evening.
The Magpies captain limped to the sidelines in the third quarter and had medical staff assess his left ankle as the side went back and forth with the Lions in a high-scoring second half.
Pendlebury briefly returned to the field, before disappearing into the change rooms and subsequently being withdrawn from the remainder of the game.
“He was impeded enough not to be able to play his role basically,” Buckley told reporters post game.
“It’s a sprained ankle at this point. He just couldn’t get it going.”
Pendlebury had 20 disposals and a goal to his name when the injury was sustained. He joined his victorious Collingwood teammates on the ground after the match, and sung the song in the visiting rooms.
The win was the Magpies’ fifth consecutive victory at the Gabba, and the seventh of Pendlebury’s nine trips to Brisbane.
Whether the captain will take on Geelong in round eight remains to be seen.
“We’ll know more about that in the next day or two,” Buckley said.
“We’ll see what happens when the dust settles.”
Scott Pendlebury WON'T return this afternoon. He received a knock to the ankle + is done for the day. #socialPIES
